Saint Memmius : ウィキペディア英語版 | Saint Memmius Saint Memmius ((フランス語:Menge, Meinge, Memmie)) is venerated as the first bishop of Châlons-sur-Marne (now ''Châlons-en-Champagne''), and founder of the diocese.〔http://www.catholic.org/saints/saint.php?saint_id=5073〕 According to tradition, Memmius was a Roman citizen who was consecrated by Saint Peter and sent to Gaul to convert the people there to Christianity.〔http://www.breviary.net/martyrology/mart08/mart0805.htm〕 However, according to Flodoard, he was a contemporary of Saint Sixtus, bishop of Reims.〔Alban Butler, ''The Lives of the Fathers, Martyrs, and Other Principal Saints'' (J. Duffy, 1866), 103.〕 ==Veneration== Saint Gregory of Tours writes that while traveling through Châlons, his servant fell sick from fever.
